Hockey India on Thursday said that the Indian women’s team will face Olympic champions the Netherlands in the doubles title of the FIH Pro League to be held in Bhubaneswar on April 8 and 9.
India and defending champions the Netherlands were originally scheduled to play on February 19 and 20, but the tournament had to be postponed due to concerns from the visiting team about the increase in Covit-19 cases in their home country, especially the highly contagious Omigran variant of the disease.
“As hosts, we are pleased to welcome the Dutch national women’s team to the FIH Pro League in India in April. India President Gyanendro Ningombam said in a statement.

India have played six matches in the FIH Pro League so far. They beat China 7-1 and 2-1 in Muscat, followed by a 2-1 win over Spain in February and a 3-4 defeat.
They recently beat Germany 1-1 (3-0 SO) after the spectators gained an extra point by winning the shootout 1-1 (2-1 SO) in the first match.
Earlier in the Olympics, India lost 1-5 to the Netherlands in their group stage match. The Netherlands won the Olympic gold medal.
The Netherlands, the world No. 1, have played four matches so far. They beat Belgium 2-0 and 3-1 in October and November last year, and 1-0 and 2-2 (3-2 SO) against Spain in February this year.
In February, the tournament was postponed due to the Netherlands’ concern over “travel advice between negative continents received from the KNHB (Royal Dutch Hockey Association) medical team and NOC medical staff”.
